Gianfranco de Nicolo

Inventor & Founder

Passionate about electronics, computer science, and music, Gianfranco has built his career through technical education, conservatory studies, and management experience at multinational companies such as Olivetti and Gartner Inc.

Rediscovering the bassoon—and its notoriously complex fingering system—marked a turning point in both his personal and professional life. It sparked a simple yet ambitious idea: using technology to make classical musical instruments more accessible.

A vision that begins with the bassoon, but already looks far beyond it.

After returning to Italy, he shifted his focus to health-related software, mastering several programming languages along the way.

This journey led to the development of the logic behind M.A.W.I.P. technology: software capable of simplifying the most complex fingering systems of wind instruments.

Chiara Corti, Samuele Mengarelli, Jacopo Pacioni, Paolo Giancarlo Sesana

Four promising students from Politecnico di Milano, enrolled in the Integrated Product Design, Design & Engineering, and Product Service System Design programs, embraced the project with enthusiasm, contributing to the development of parametric 3D models for new instrument keys and their related supports on movable frames.

Their work began with a foundation they created themselves: a three-dimensional model of the bassoon, which served as the starting point for the entire design process.
